Oh! You might have lost a loved one to death whom you remember to date. You look at their picture and you remember the times when you used to talk to them. And then you wish you could see them moving again too. Aww, sad. Isn’t it?

Unfortunately, we can’t bring back your loved one but there is something AI has come up with to make you feel a little better. Yes, now you can animate the photos of your loved ones through the amazing AI. Sounds weird or ‘wow’?

MyHeritage, a virtual genealogy company has developed a novel tool that can set your family history alive. The AI-powered tool Deep Nostalgia can add effects like blinks, nods, and smiles which can “breathe” life in still photos of people. The tool is completely free to use. You can add animations to any old photograph by just registering with MyHeritage to create your account.

The tool works in this way that as soon as you upload the photo of a dear one, AI processes the photo and enhances it by adding a couple of animations. These animations are facial expressions derived from the employees of MyHeritage. Within a short period of 10 to 20 seconds, you get a short gif or a video clip of your loved ones. Isn’t that great?

This AI tool has received a license from Israeli company D-ID (de-identification). The tool can only animate the faces of people currently. But guess what? Deep Nostalgia can animate many faces in a single photograph. Aha!

The responses received by people are quite varied as some find it amazing while others find it quite disturbing. MyHeritage generously accepts this varied response from people.

In the FAQ section of the Deep Nostalgia page, MyHeritage says, “Some people love the Deep Nostalgia feature and consider it magical while others find it creepy and dislike it. Indeed, the results can be controversial and it’s hard to stay indifferent to this technology.”

Twitter went crazy over Deep Nostalgia this past weekend as people were thrilled to bring their loved ones to life. Some very interesting photos of historical statues also rose to prominence on the social media site.

So what are you waiting for? Head to the website of Deep Nostalgia and create your account for free. Upload as many as five photos for free and for more photos get yourself a paid account. In case you have a Complete subscription with MyHeritage, feel free to use the tool to upload as many photos as you like without paying any additional cost.

So is it a yea or a nay?
