Okay, how about this. You can get a ‘twin’ of any building in real-time. Yup. That’s possible now. Known software development company Bentley Systems that it is all set to create real-time digital twins using NVIDIA Omniverse. With the collaboration between the two, photorealistic digital twins of its large-scale civil and industrial infrastructure projects could be created. These digital twins provide real-time simulation and visualization of the projects.
Bentley’s iTwin platform coupled with NVIDIA Omniverse and enhanced by AI can create precisely accurate digital content with environmental effects and realistic lighting. The best thing about this latest development is that the effects and lighting can be viewed on several devices using workstations, web browsers, VR/AR headsets, and tablets from anywhere in the world.

Bentley iTwin is a scalable and open cloud platform that enables owner-operators and engineering firms to visualize, create and subsequently analyze the digital twins of infrastructure assets. The utility of such innovation becomes more evident when digital information managers incorporate engineering data from this platform to replicate an infrastructure asset. For instance, a range of design tools coordinate the engineering data and combine it with the IoT data, reality data, and other types of data without disturbing the ongoing processes or tools.
Bentley Systems CEO, Greg Bentley, said, “Visualization and simulation underpin many of the use cases for infrastructure digital twins. The collaboration of Bentley iTwin and NVIDIA Omniverse is delivering real-time, immersive 3D/4D experiences that will enable true-to-reality, physics-based simulation of even the largest and most complex infrastructure assets. GPU-computing is transforming the world of engineering and construction and promises to unleash the potential of AI for simulation and advanced analytics in infrastructure digital twins.”
NVIDIA’s CEO and founder asserted, “Modern infrastructure are magnificent feats of engineering. NVIDIA and Bentley share a vision of physically-based digital twins – so accurate and realistically simulated that they will revolutionize everything from infrastructure design to operations. NVIDIA Omniverse was built precisely to realize this vision – to create shared virtual worlds that are simulated with physical and photorealism. We are delighted Bentley is developing applications for infrastructure digital twins on NVIDIA Omniverse.”
According to a report released by Gartner, “Companies can initially use digital twins to save money simply by improving situational awareness. For example, digital twins can help companies to recognize equipment failures before they stall production, allowing repairs to be made early or at less cost. Companies can then save even more money when they further automate their business response to such changing conditions.”
The world is still trying to pick up the pieces shredded by the unimaginable impacts of the pandemic. Gartner thinks digital twins might be a help in keeping the costs at a low.
